GROSSE POINTE – State Representative Tim Bledsoe (D-Grosse Pointe) and Andrew Richner, Chairman of the University of Michigan Board of Regents, will host a "Community Conversation" with the Center for Michigan in Grosse Pointe on Monday, Sept. 21, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Grosse Pointe War Memorial, 32 Lake Shore Drive in Grosse Pointe Farms.
"I encourage those interested in the future of our state to attend and lend your views," Bledsoe said. "This is an excellent opportunity to discuss the importance of working together to look toward Michigan's future. These discussions are the cornerstone of our democracy."
Nancy Short, outreach coordinator for the Center for Michigan, will lead the conversation on the topic of the public engagement campaign, "Michigan's Defining Moment" (MDM). The campaign is a statewide, nonpartisan, nonprofit effort to discuss Michigan's challenges and opportunities and to find common ground to guide the decisions of state and local leaders. The campaign's first report is a result of 180 meetings involving 1,800 participants from across the state.
"As co-host of this event and a former State Representative, I look forward to discussing the importance of bipartisan leadership with Representative Bledsoe and our community," Richner said. "We face serious challenges as a state and I look forward to discussing the importance of working together toward a common goal."
The event is open to all residents. There is no charge to attend, however reservations are required. The AAUW Grosse Pointe and the Grosse Pointe League of Women Voters of Michigan are cosponsors of the event.
"When the people discuss their viewpoints, leaders are better able to make the best decisions," Bledsoe said. "Sharing in a community conversation is a great way to get that dialogue started. I hope to see many people from the First House District weigh in on important issues affecting our community and our state."
