State Rep. Gay-Dagnogo on Gov. Whitmer’s Establishment of Poverty Task Force

Wednesday, December 18, 2019

“For too long, systemic poverty has perpetuated unfavorable outcomes and barriers for families throughout Michigan, in both urban and rural communities. In the city of Detroit, families have been impacted by water shut offs, the lack of employment opportunities, reliable means of transportation, affordable insurance and affordable early child care–and that must change.

“Our state is much better than that, and I see this as an opportunity to work with my colleagues in a bipartisan manner, with community stakeholders who have demonstrated a commitment to addressing these issues, and state directors to change the trajectory for all families! Our governor has the ability to convene a meaningful commission that will advance optimal outcomes for our children, seniors, and those facing disadvantages in education, housing and public services.

“I applaud Gov. Whitmer’s dedication to creating a framework that will help Detroit families thrive in their communities, and I’m ready to partner with her to ensure this process runs smoothly.”
